Situation Update:
Cyclone Dora, the first cyclone in the North Indian Ocean in 2011 made its landfall at Jiwani town, where Iran and Pakistan bordered, and 250nm away from where CVN-71 Strike Group is operating. Rough sea and strong wind made it more difficult for carrier operations, therefore, the Air Force scheduled more sorties from Al Minhad Airbase and is covering all CAP missions, whilst both CVN-71 and CVN-73 Strike Groups minimized their sorties for the day, leading to less CAS support for the ground forces. On the ground, only sporadic fires were exchanged in Bandar Abbas City, as our allied forces and the Iranian army were both defending their own strongholds while heavy rain poured down. Jiroft Airbase is paralyzed after the successful attack on Day 17, and Marine's 8th Regiment has pushed to Anbarabad, about 15nm south of Jiroft. In the north, depth is also established with the 1st and 7th Regiments taking control of the Mountain Baz region. In the morning, the United States and the United Arab Emirates have issued a joint announcement to the public and shipping industry, stating that the Iranian army has lost its attacking capability on Hormuz Strait, and it is safe for commercial ships to transit now. However, as part of Bandar Abbas City is still controlled by the Iranian army, IMO Maritime Safety Committee considered the strait a war zone and most insurance companies refused to give the green light to the shipowners for transit. Although CVN-71 canceled many sorties on Day 18 due to the storm, the Command General authorized to resume of the night strike mission on the Golgohan weapon factory, a subsidiary of Sirjan Golgohan Industry, a key producer of important parts and materials for Iran's nuclear weapon project. Hawks Squadron once again took the challenging task on a stormy night.
