NSAWC (now NAWDC) consolidated three commands into a single command structure under a flag officer on 11 July 1996 to enhance aviation training effectiveness. The Naval Strike Warfare Center (STRIKE "U"), based at NAS Fallon since 1984, was amalgamated with the Navy Fighter Weapons School ("TOPGUN") and the Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School (TOPDOME). Both schools had moved from NAS Miramar as a result of a Base Realignment and Closure decision in 1993 which transferred that installation back to the Marine Corps as MCAS Miramar.

A mission you can run either solo or with friends to practice air combat.  It is meant for getting into the action quickly and resetting quickly so all aircraft are airstart so you can get many fights in over a short period of time.  You can fly any air superiority fighter in DCS (essentially anything with a dedicated air to air radar).  If you want to practice with a specific weapons loadout you can land at your nearby airbase to refuel/repair/rearm.  AWACS can also be called up so you can get bogey calls and can practice using datalink (for those aircraft that support it).  The DCS module Supercarrier is now included.

I thought it would be nice to make a helmet for our favorite dumb@ss. Loosely based off of LCDR Heatherly's helmet from Top Gun, this helmet features the classic star pattern but adapted to a realistic tape scheme to kinda fit the US Navy's standards after about the early/mid 1980s. These words are written above the doorway leading into the Naval Air Combat Weapons School, colloquially known as Fighter Weapons School, by the students and cadre who attend. Students come to NAS Mesa Verde four times a year and spend eight weeks being taught by some of the best tactics instructors in the Emmerian Military. Pilots learn both in the classroom and in the cockpit how to counter the various threats that the Emmerian military may face in the near and far future, and will go back to their own squadrons as in house instructors to teach the skills they have honed.
