104th Fighter Squadron, 175th Wing, Mary Air National Guard, 100 Year Anniversary, 78-0693, Warfield ANGB, MD

Serial Number 78-0693 was recently repainted in this livery to commemorate the 100th birthday of the 104th Fighter squadron which was founded on June 29, 1921, as the 104th Observation Squadron.  The 104th Fighter Squadron is assigned to the 175th Wing, stationed at Warfield Air National Guard base located in Warfield, Maryland.  

This livery is an homage to how the original O-17 and O-38Bs first flown by the unit in the early 20s and 30s would appear.  The 104th would remain an observation squadron  until the end of WWII where the squadron was reconstituted as the 104th Fighter Squadron.  The "Ying Yang" on the engine is a nod to the 29th Infantry division (Army) which  the 104th Observation Squadron was originally assigned to upon formation in 1921.
