VF-228 "Headhunters" is one of the Osean Maritime Defense Force's Fleet Replacement Squadron’s for the F-14 Tomcat. Now assigned to Readiness Carrier Air Wing 4, The Headhunters would have an extensive Combat career in the 1960s flying the F-4B, and later F-4J, Phantom while attached to Carrier Air Wing 9.
In 1970 with the official adoption of the Tomcat into the OMDF, VF-228 was selected to be one of the training units for the aircraft, for both Osean and foreign pilots.
The first class of students would graduate at the end of 1971, and be transferred into VF-616, VF-206, VF-243, VF-14 and VF-12. As well as various foreign air forces.
Today the Headhunters boast the largest collection of Tomcats assigned to a single squadron with over forty aircraft at NAS Shiloh.
