Ace Combat inspired livery for the F/A-18C Hornet

Established in the mid 1960s, VA-148 would earn its wings flying the slow A-7 Corsair II instead of any sleek fighters. Forming the strong ground attack back of the Air wings they were attached to, the Rising Suns proved to be an extremely capable squadron, often outshining the F-4, and later F-14 squadrons they served with. They however wouldn't come into their own until the late 1980s with the adoption of the F/A-18 Hornet. Fully embracing the multi-role capabilities of their new fighter, the once respected Rising Suns became a force to be downright feared by Oseas foes.
The Squadron would avoid total annihilation in the Circum Pacific war when their host Carrier, the OFS Barbet would be sunk in the closing battles of the war. 148 had what was initially thought to be misfortune of a squadron wide Airframe transfer to the newer F/A-18E Super Hornet when the Barbet left.
Following the war, the OMDF would attach VFA-148 to the newly built OFS Barbet, a faster nuclear powered aircraft carrier, and would deploy the Rising Suns and the 23rd Carrier Air Wing to the North Pacific, visiting ports in both Emmeria and Yuktobania. Upon arrival back in Osea in 2020, the Squadron was picked for the experimental Have Glass upgrade to the Rhino, where the RAM paint would be applied to a handful of the squadrons aircraft making 148 the only Naval squadron outside of the F-35 units to get the upgrade.
