Based out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. The 357th Fighter Squadron ‘Dragons’ acts as the Operational Training Unit for the A-6E Intruder fighter-bomber.

Transitioning to the A-6 in early 1970 fr om the A-7, the Dragons would help master the A-6’s All-weather and precision strike-capabilities in the desert. Thanks to the advanced avionics suite of the day, the Dragons were able to train pilots in low-level strikes, below wh ere traditional SA-7 SAM’s could target them, as well as later on incorporating the use of the AGM-88 ‘HARM’ to kill these airborne threats.

Today, the 357th still operates out of Davis-Monthan, training the next generation of close-air-support pilot in the same aircraft that saved thousands in the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of the Middle East

After pilots complete their initial flight training in the 1st Training Wing, many will matriculate through the 802nd TTS. Nicknamed ‘Sirius’, students tracked for many airframes, from the F-14AJ to C-130 learn advanced skills before breaking off again into their final schools.

The men of the 802nd fly the Fujiwara Heavy Industries T-10 intermediate Jet trainer, a license-built copy of the Sapin designed C-101 Aviojet. The T-10 can be outfitted with a small amount of primarily training weapons, but with optional M-3 50 caliber machine guns, or a 30mm cannon, the T-10 can be transitioned into a formidable light-attack aircraft if the need ever arose.

Established in 1964, Attack Squadron 66, otherwise known as the “Red Horses” would be one of the first squadrons native to the then-state-of-the-art A-6 Intruder. During the Clavis Conflict later in the decade, the squadron would prove to be a cornerstone of Osean Carrier Strike power while stationed aboard the OFS Huron. Leveraging the A-6’s advanced sensor suite, the squadron became masters of low level, all weather strike and maritime interdiction missions, giving them capabilities that would set them well apart from contemporary units in the A-4 and A-7 communities. The Red Horses’ operations and tactics influenced later Osean naval aviation doctrine, bridging the era between conventional bombing and modern precision warfare in the turbulent years before the Belkan escalation. The unit would retire the A-6E in 1997 following the Belkan war, and be totally disestablished in 2006 during a Defense-force-wide restructuring.

The first Fleet Squadron to obtain the A-6A, VA-85 “Black Falcons” would be one of the first naval squadrons over Hanoi in 1965 off the USS Kittyhawk. During this deployment would see one aviator earning the Naval Cross and the unit as a whole earning three Presidential Unit Citations for actions during Operation Linebacker and Rolling Thunder.

Also Noteworthy during this period was the squadrons experimentation with Camouflaged aircraft, including notably BuNo 151792 which bore a tri-colored ‘South East Asia’ pattern of greens and brown. Along with 152799 which bore a two-tone Green and Blue pattern, the aircraft were evaluated at NAS Oceana before reverting back to their standard gull gray.

The Squadron would go on to serve in many other conflicts, including the Gulf of Sidra and Gulf War, before being deactivated in 1994.

Acting as the Fleet Replacement Squadron for NAS Oceana in Virginia. VA-42 “The Green Pawns” would train Grumman A-6 Intruder pilots for every conflict from Vietnam through Desert Storm.

Obtaining the A-6 in 1963, the Green Pawns would spearhead the Fleet Introduction program for the then state-of-the-art All-weather bomber. With a payload previously only seen with squadrons of aircraft only a decade prior, the A-6 would revolutionize naval bombardment capabilities seeing the end to aircraft such as the A-1H that had long fulfilled the role.

For thirty years, the Green Pawns would see the A-6 through various upgrades including the E and TRAM making the jets the most capable they ever would be. The Squadron would inherent VA-176’s lineage, shedding the Green Pawns title in 1992, and would later be disestablished in 1994, ending a legacy that created thousands of pilots and WSO’s who would serve in every conflict the Navy found itself in.

One of the first units established under the reinstituted Monarchy of Erusea following the Continental War, the 5th Tactical Fighter Squadron ‘Orleans’ faced some scrutiny from both external ISAF observers as well as the Erusean Leadership. Their first Commander, Colonel Eugene DeRais, and many of their original squadron staff had ties to the 1431st Weapons and Tactics squadron, a controversial unit known for its hardliner stance on internal Air Force politics. During the interwar years the unit would master the state-of-the-art Su-35 ‘Flanker’. In time for the Lighthouse War; during which Orleans would be tasked with defending the Amber Mountains region.

Following the war, the unit would be one of the first signs of peace for the new world with Erusea, deploying on goodwill exchanges with Osea during the ‘Chaldea Exercise’ in 2022 and Emmeria during the “Eagle Invitational’ in 2023. Today the unit still operates the Flanker as a sign of Erusean strength in the changing world.

The 527th Aggressor Squadron, creatively known as the “Aggressors”, was a key tactical training unit to USAF forces in Europe. Stationed at RAF Bentwaters in the UK and flying the F-16C, the squadron was critical at emulating Soviet threats in the waning days of the Cold War from 1988-1990.

Formed in 1976 out of RAF Alconbury, the 527th TFTAS, under the 10th TFW, initially used the F-5E tigers in “Red Bear” patterns for dissimilar air combat training against NATO forces over East Anglia. With shifts in foreign policy, the unit would relocate to Bentwaters with newer F-16C’s from squadrons located in Germany.

Following their full reassignment to now 12 F-16s, the squadron would resume DACT duties in 1988 hosting a variety of allied squadrons for exercises such as Team Spirit  and Green Flag. The Fall of the Wall in 1989 would spell the end for the unit, as in late 1990 the squadron would be deactivated, its legacy carried forward through to the 527th Space Aggressor Squadron.

The North American F-86F Sabre was the definitive variant of the famed Korean War jet fighter, representing the peak of USAF swept-wing design in the early Cold War. Entering service in the early 1950s, the F-86F featured a more powerful J47-GE-27 engine, an “all-flying” tail, and a larger, refined wing for greater maneuverability and high-altitude performance. Armed with six .50-caliber M3 machine guns and capable of carrying bombs or rockets, the Sabre served as both a nimble air-superiority fighter and a versatile fighter-bomber. In Korea, the F-86F cemented its legend against the MiG-15, achieving an estimated 10:1 kill ratio through superior pilot training and technology. Beyond combat, it served worldwide as the USAF’s primary frontline jet through the mid-1950s, later transitioning to Air National Guard units. The F-86F’s blend of speed, agility, and reliability made it a cornerstone of early American jet aviation and a symbol of U.S. airpower.
