The Czechoslovak Air Force operated the MiG-21 fr om two sources. The first was the licensed production of the MiG-21F-13, which was manufactured by Aero Vodochody between 1963 and 1973, with 194 units produced. Initially, these machines were referred to as S-106, but later changed to the original name MiG-21. The second source was supplies to the USSR. In 1964, the MiGy-21PF were delivered, and were phased out in 1990. In the years 1965 - 1966, the two-seater MiGy-21U were delivered, followed by the MiGy-21US in the years 1968 - 1970 and finally the MiGy-21UM between 1971 - 1978. From 1966 to 1969, deliveries of MiG-21PFMs took place, of which the last pieces were discarded in 1991. In 1969 and 1973, the Czechoslovak Republic delivered several MiG-21s to Syria and Egypt, wh ere they were to compensate for war losses. Between 1969 and 1972, the reconnaissance MiG-21R was delivered, which was in service until the division of the federation in 1993 and subsequently served in the Czech and Slovak air forces. In 1969, the first deliveries of the MiG-21M (MiG-21MA) were launched, which also served until the collapse of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and subsequently in the successor countries. Between 1971 and 1975, Czechoslovakia acquired the MiG-21MF, which then formed the backbone of the fighter units of our air force.

Exactly one month after final assembly, this aircraft was handed over to representatives of the Czechoslovak Air Force on February 4 , 1972. After initial service with the 4th slp at Pardubice, this aircraft served with the 5th and 9th slp. In May 1991, the aircraft was reassigned to the 11th slp, based at Zatec. In October, 1991, the plane was decked out to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the formation of the 11th slp. The aircraft remains in this guise to this day. After the disbandment of the 11th slp, the aircraft was transferred to the 28th sbolp at Caslav. There, it served until its retirement, where it still serves as a monument to the service of the MiG-21 at that base.
The 157th FS “Swamp Fox” / 169th FW, South Carolina ANG started to receive the F-16 Fighting

Falcon in July 1983. In 1995 became the first ANG unit to receive the F-16 Block 52 directly from

the manufacturer instead of second-hand from regular force units. This change made them into a

multi-role unit and with the arrival of the HARM Targeting System the 157th FS became a Wild

Weasel Squadron. 2015 was the 50th Anniversary of the 157th FS and was marked by a special

paint scheme on F-16 92-3911.

F-16 History

The 55th FS started receiving the first F-16s in 1997. During July of 1996 the 55th FS slowly began moving out its A-10s to Pope AFB. Shortly after all the A-10s were gone the squadron stood down and began the process of transitioning to the F-16C/D block 50. In July of 1997 the 55th FS became operational with the F-16 making Shaw strictly an F-16 base. With all squadrons fling the block 50 the 20th FW became a dedicated Wild Weasel operator. A USAF record was set when the squadron stood up combat ready in only 60 days.

For the Wild Weasel mission the aircraft were equipped with the HARM Targeting System (HTS) and the AGM-88 HARM missile. With the development of more advanced targeting pods it became possible to deploy these airframes in the so-called Destruction of Enemy Air Defense (DEAD) mission. This improves the output of each mission dramatically with the aircraft being able to detect and destroy radar systems and also being able to destroy other dedicated targets.
