The Afghan National Air Force (AAF) recieved their first two C-130Hs from the United States in late 2013, in order to replace older Soviet-built cargo aircraft and newer Italian C-27 Spartans to due significant issues with the C-27 program. The AAF eventually recieved and operated a total of four C-130H aircraft until the Afghan government collapsed in 2021. During one of the last missions of the Afghan National Air Force, AAF C-130s evacuated several hundred Afghan National Army (ANA) troops from Kandahar Airfield and flew them to Kabul, as Kandahar city fell to the Taliban. At least two were captured by the Taliban after the fall of Kabul, but were disabled by evacuating US forces. It is unclear if these C-130s that were left behind in Afghanistan remain inoperable.
