P-51D Mustang Serial No. 44-13521 was built at North American Aviation's Inglewood plant, California. It was shipped to England on 6 June 1944, was taken in charge on 30 June 1944 and assigned to the 504th Fighter Squadron, part of the 339th Fighter Group, based at Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire. Her assigned pilot was Captain Bradford V. Stevens, who gave her the name 'Marinell'. She had four confirmed aerial victories to her credit.
44-13521 was lost on 13 August 1944, while on a fighter/bomber mission to Saint Quentin, Feuquières, Beauvais and Saint Omer, with 2nd Lt. Myer R. Winkelman at the controls. The exact cause of the crash is not known, although it might have been due to a Flak hit. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 7775.
