F-86E-6-CAN 52-2833, "RUFUS", F/L Ernie Glover, RCAF
Semi-historical skin of "Rufus", a Canadair-built Sabre Mk.2, provided to the USAF during the Korean War, and flown by F/L Ernie Glover, RCAF.
For DCS World 2.5
Little known fact, Canada supplied 60 Sabre Mk.2 aircraft to the USAF during the Korean war while North American Aviation was running at full capacity, trying to keep up with USAF demands. These aircraft were delivered to California and fitted with American equipment and given USAF serials before being shipped overseas. The USAF designation for this Sabre model was F-86E-6-CAN.
Some 22 senior RCAF fighter pilots were seconded to the USAF during the Korean war in order to receive jet combat experience. They flew with front line USAF fighter groups.
F/L Ernie Glover served with the 334th FIS and, coincidentally, flew some of the Canadian-built Sabres, including RCAF serial 19244/USAF serial 52-2833. He eventually scored 3 MiGs destroyed and 3 damaged during his tour, earning him both the American and Commonwealth DFC medals.
