Several Divisions of Syrian armor are racing across the Golan Heights.  They have met fierce resistance from the tiny number of IDF defenders, but not enough to stop the thrust.  Only a handful of friendly units remain.  They are exhausted and almost out of ammo from continuous fighting through the night.   Within ten miles of their objectives the Syrians are in sight of victory.

The only thing stopping them is what is left of the IDF forces on the ground and air strikes.  This mission is exceedingly dangerous because the threats include MiGs, SAMs, and radar-guided AAA.  You are tasked with helping blunt the spearhead.

In Operation Nalchik Airstrikes, our forces face a formidable challenge as enemy units advance from the northwest, supported by armored vehicles and airpower. The primary objectives are to defend Beslan and a forward operating base, while also reclaiming control of Nalchik Airport, which has fallen into enemy hands.

Swift and coordinated action is essential to counter the aggressive enemy advance. Defense efforts are organized into sectors Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie to fortify our positions effectively. Additionally, our aircraft, including SU, MIG, A10, F14, F16, F-18s and Hercules transports, alongside helicopters such as UH-60Ls and UH-1Hs, will play a crucial role in bolstering our defenses and supporting ground forces in retaking Nalchik Airport.

Syria has crossed the Purple Line.  Sirens are going off all over Israel.  It is Yom Kippur, 1973.  Instead of being with family, you are mounting up in your A-4 “Ayit”.  You are about to see firsthand what is actually going on.

The mission is Close Air Support.  The problem is communication.  We have none.  There are no FACs.  The engaged units are fighting for their lives.

This is easy to medium difficulty CAS/A2A mission and will take about 30 minutes to complete.

It is the first full day of the Yom Kippur war, 07 OCT 1973.  IAF aircraft are taking off in support of troops on the ground in Sinai shortly.  They will be faced by units that have had all night to dig in are are under cover of SA-2, SA-3, SA-6, SA-7 and AAA guns.  All your skill will be tested in the missions today.  

While established in 1977, the 254th ‘Road Runners’ trace their lineage back to the 1940s with the 2774th Fighter Group of the same name, which flew P-47 Thunderbolts in the Ground attack role against Belkan forces during the conflict. Now, eighty years later,  the OA-10s of the 245th bear similar markings and the notable red and white checkered pattern to honor their tank busting heritage.

As a Tactical Air Support Squadron, the Road Runners Primary mission is Forward Air Control, marking targets for other A-10s to attack. While not officially used, the term ‘Fast FAC’, adorns many pieces of squadron esprit de corps, in reference to the first pilots assigned to the 254th who had been Fast FAC F-4 pilots during Verusea.

Today the Road Runners operate out of Shiloh, and have deployed both in Yuktobania and Verusea to support OADF operations in both theatres.

Israel is under attack.

It is October 6th, 1973, Yom Kippur.  The most holy day of the year.  Most IDF members are home with family or on leave.  The situation is dire.

Without warning, Egyptian Air Forces destroyed or damaged airfields and military facilities throughout the Sinai.  In what was expected to take days, Egyptian units have breached the sand walls of the canal in mere hours.  Reports indicate massive forces are moving across the Canal and overrunning the Bar Lev Line.
