Earlier today, after months of small-scale conflicts, Iraqi Forces launched a series of surprise attacks on almost every active Iranian airfield. Iraqi ground troops have begun an offensive along the border with Iran and are making advances into Iranian territory.
The Iraqi forces are unaware that their air attacks have done little long-term damage to the IIRAF airfields. After a few hours of hurried maintenance, the Iranian F-5E Tigers are ready to strike back!
This is a historical mission and is based on actual events. To make the sortie a bit more fun it is not an exact replica!
The mission contains an actual news broadcast from the start of the Iran-Iraq war.
You are Lion 1, the lead aircraft of two F-5Es. Your aircraft are already armed with: 2x M117 750lb bombs, 2x LAU-3 rocket pods with 19x HE Rockets, a pair of AIM-9P5 Sidewinders and a central 150-gal Fuel Tank.
MISSION: Launch a revenge attack on the enemy airfield at Rayak. Priority targets are any hangars and parked aircraft in the north-eastern corner of the airfield.
FRIENDLY FORCES: Your sortie will be escorted by Jackal, a pair of F-5Es armed with Sidewinders.
ENEMY FORCES: Intelligence reports believe the air base is being defended by a battery of up to 4 x SA2 launchers.
We are not expecting any air resistance but pairs of MiG-21s have been patrolling the area. In addition, the enemy may be able to scramble a plane or two, or mount a ZSU-23, once they realise they are under attack.
Mission Duration: 45 minutes
Random?: The placement of enemy ground and the type air defences have a small random element to them.
