Low-poly historic AI sailship of Galleon type. Quickly brings some color and diversion into your sceneries. With a total of 5 LODs impact on framerate is neglectable.
Maybe not for the hardcore historian, but for the leisure-inclined simmer who enjoys to take his warbird (or Yak-52, Christen Eagle) on a peaceful early morning spin.
INSTALLATION /TECH STUFF
Extract zip-file into your Saved Games/DCS[xyz] directory. ZIP has OVGME ready folder structure. It creates a single new directory in 'tech' which can be deleted any time for deinstallation.
The collison modell is restricted to the ship's hull. You can safely fly thru sails and masts!
Historically these ships did seldom operate at speeds much above 10 knots (20kmh). This is fast enough to activate a small visible wake.
The ship's animation is restricted to ingame AI animation, cruising, rocking and the wake. The modell (sails, flags) is static. However, in close-up the sails' 'transparencey' (simulated by hundreds of small holes pinched into the canvas) gives quite some liveliness.
*** Important note: For the ship to rock slightly the mission wind settings for 10m above sea level must be set to at least 3 m/s! ***
THE MODEL
After the «BRIG» type this is my second historic sailship. For a low poly model it offers quite some detail with e.g. a nice rigging. Sails and flags come in a standard version (natural canvas color) plus 3 additional liveries (yellow, red and 'pirate').
As mentioned, this addon is a bit «out of time». However, there are some tour agencies that operatate modern sailships of similar size all over the world. Thus you may use this modell in any terrain modul, like Normandy, The Channel, Syria, Caucasus.
After release of #4 sailship (soon) I will publish at least a couple of 'static templates' for the Channel and Marianas scenery. Feel free to share your own missions and templates!
