The battery is set up to engage the advancing enemy at the vital Werra viaducts of the A7, crossing the Werra river - a strategic bottleneck.

Advance elements of a Warsaw Pact Motorized Brigade have breached the inner-german border east of Kassel and are now advancing on Autobahn A7 west towards Kassel.
Reacting to the growing tensions in the preceding days, Royal Air Force Germany (RAFG) and the British Army Of the Rhine (B.A.O.R.) have forward deployed elements of 18 Squadron RAFG and a battery of BAOR L118 field artillery to Fritzlar Army Airfield.
