Who is our favorite helicopter? Who is the best helicopter ever made? The Eagle Dynamics Apache of course! That´s why I thought the Apache deserves are more clean and newer cockpit.
I made a cockpit overhaul for my favorite helicopter sim purely for personal use, but because I was asked to publish it - here it is. :)
It took me a while to fix two small texture glitches and to find a usable texture format, that´s why it took a few days longer to upload it. The textures are in Intel TextureWorks DXT5 with Alpha channel in good quality with FPS-friendly file size.
The file is with 700mb too big to upload here so I needed a filehoster. The password for the WinRar file is "chopchopchop".
Sorry I don´t know how to create an optional cockpit with description.lua file that can be selected in the special options for this flight simulator (because no one else made a cockpit for the Apache otherwise I would have had a template), so the only install option for now is overwrite the textures in the cockpit folder. If you know how a selectable cockpit texture set is done, please let me know.
Go to:
D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\AH-64D\Cockpit\Textures
(or wherever you have installed our precious Apache, when not using the Steam version it is in a different file path)
and make a backup of the file "AH-64D-CPT-TEXTURES.zip". Open "AH-64D-CPT-TEXTURES.zip" with WinRAR and overwrite with the new .dds files. Done.
There is a different install method and also optional cockpits are already available to select in the Apache options menu, but like I said I simply don´t know how this is done, creating a selectable cockpit mod.
Overwriting original texture files probably means you are no longer allowed to use this helicopter in multiplayer, I personally don´t play any multiplayer games and use this mod only as personal enhancement of the best helicopter sim ever made... so always keep an eye on your texture backup and use the original files for multiplayer. Or create an optional main menu selectable cockpit if you can :)
Because there are two different texture sets now (one FPS-optimized and one in perfect quality) the size is bigger than 300mb so I needed a file hoster for the WinRar.
