RCN/CAF Fictional CF-144 Livery V1.1 (17/03/2024)
This is a fictional livery based off the Royal Navy F-4’s as the basis of a what-if the Royal Canadian Navy had the funds for a new carrier and F-14’s.
There are two liveries provided.
146 – in VF-871 colours, it is inspired by the US Navy and old RCN liveries, this is what it may have looked like before the unification of the Canadian Armed Forces.
334 – In VF-870 colours, this is a more realistic interpretation of what a naval version of a CF-144 may have looked like in the 80s. Though colour markings are bars instead of triangles as it was difficult to make it fit the shape of the rudder.
Initially known as 870 NAS before adopting American-style squadron designations in 1955, VF-870 marked a significant milestone as the Royal Canadian Navy's first jet aircraft squadron. It served alongside VF-871 aboard HMCS Bonaventure, both operating the F2H Banshee. However, in 1959, VF-871 merged into VF-870, making it the sole RCN unit to operate the Banshee. This era concluded with the Banshees' final deployment from HMCS Bonaventure, which lasted from April 9 to June 29, 1962. In September 1962, VF-870 was disbanded, leaving only three RCN squadrons to have ever operated jet fighters.
In a fictional era, the squadrons were reactivated after the acquisition of 79 F-14 including parts and weapons from Iran due to the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The F-14’s when on to operate from HMCS Forrestal (CV-59), a Forrestal-class carrier leased from the US Navy.
