Founded in the early years of the Army Aviation Brigade, the 116 Squadron gained official squadron status with the establishment of the Royal Nordlands Air Force in 1951. Operating from Oost-Sousburg Air Base, the "Ridders" operating F-16Cs, specializing in intelligence gathering. The squadron has seen many deployments like the Belkan War, Continental War, and the Lighthouse War.
