We all know the feeling: design a really nice mission with many player aircraft options, only to have the air base look like a desert diner: mostly empty.

A few years ago, fellow mission designer Hardcard created a fantastic script to do away with the emptiness (and, admittedly, mission performance): SWAPR. I've used SWAPR and love the idea.

So it is with great humility and a deep bow to Hardcard that I present 'StopGaps': It's a light-weight re-imgination of Hardcard's idea that replaces all player planes with their static equivalents until a player jumps into them. After players leave their plane, it is returned to the parking position.

"CnK" is a single/multi-player dynamic mission in which you are tasked to capture multiple FARP and airfields. You start from a Tarawa-class LHA carrying different helicopters and two Harriers. Once you have captured an airfield, you also gain access to fixed wing aircraft (note: the initial airfield capture step can be skipped).

Arrayed against you are AI-controlled REDFORCE troops that will try to re-take any FARP or airfield you may have captured.

A successful mission requires that at least one (usually more) of the players fly two or more different airframes (rotor- and/or fixed-wing) before the mission is a success. CnK heavily emphasizes helicopter warfare; it can be won flying only helicopters; having fixed-wing support for CAS and SEAD makes this scenario much easier.

WARNING: when you crash an aircraft, that aircraft's slot is blocked for the rest of the game, forcing you to capture other airfields or FARPs to re-gain access to that plane

Protect your naval group from attacking Submarines!
In this mission, your (and your friends', should you play in a group) job is to protect your naval group from an unseen enemy: submarines. At your disposal you have ASW Buoys and Torpedoes.

Caveat emptor: This is a more casual approach to ASW in DCS; it prioritizes pilot skills and co-operation when dropping buoys and torpedoes over technical accuracy. In other words: fun over realism. Therefore - rivet counters beware!

A hover trainer - for all player-controllable helicopters and the Harrier. CAUTION: Mind your hairline, It'll recede!

To be able to hover in a helicopter is like being able to parallel park a car. Difficult, unimpressive, and a prerequisite for flying any helicopter.

Well, here's a small mission that helps you hone that skill with any of DCS's currently available flyable Helicopters (and the Harrier).

The mission also throws in some element of scoring to keep you on your toes. Or rather, to keep you keep your toes on your rudder. Oh, and Instructor/Trainer MP setup is tentatively supported (requires more testing) for the MP helos

"Lawnmower" is a mission where you train, improve, and test your helicopter landing skills. Request a landing by difficulty (easy, normal, or hard), and the mission generates an LZ based on your request. LZs are generated dynamically, from tens of thousands of possibilities, virtually guaranteeing that no two missions are identical (unless you are unusually patient). Landings are rated individually, and after five or more consecutive landings, your overall skill is rated as well. Harshly. So better step up your game, soldier!
