Practice helicopter landings using this script I have developed for the OH-6, but it is compatible with any helicopter. It generates random landing zones marked with smoke, announces bearing and distance, and scores your accuracy after each landing before creating a new spot - a simple, continuous training loop to sharpen your skills ahead of the AH‑6/MH‑6 release (or any other Helo).
This script is designed to help helicopter pilots practice precision landings in various locations in DCS World. With the upcoming release of the AH-6/MH-6, it provides a fun and challenging way to sharpen your landing skills.
What it does:
✅ Detects the player’s helicopter group (blue coalition, player-controlled).
✅ Generates random landing spots within 1–5 km of your current position, avoiding buildings.
✅ Marks each landing spot with smoke (cycling through red, green, blue, and orange for variety).
✅ Announces the new landing location with bearing and distance (adjusted for magnetic variation).
✅ Evaluates your landing accuracy by reporting how many meters away you touched down from the designated spot.
✅ Automatically generates a new landing spot after each successful landing, keeping the training continuous and dynamic.
How it works in practice:
1. Place any Helicopter you own (or Mod) at any base on the map as a Player Helo.
2. When you start, a random landing zone is created and marked with smoke.
3. A message is displayed for 30 seconds indicating the bearing and distance to the landing zone.
4. Fly to the location and attempt a landing close to the smoke (assume there were some SOF to be extracted).
5. Upon landing, the script tells you how close you were to the target.
6. A new landing zone is immediately generated, so you can keep practising without interruption.
7. I kept the distances relatively short, as the emphasis is on the landings.
This makes for an engaging training loop that’s perfect for VR immersion, honing situational awareness, and improving helicopter handling skills. Enjoy.
