Type 055 Guided-missile destroyer is designed by 701 Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and jointly built by Jiangnan Shipyard and Dalian Shipyard. It is equipped with a new type of active phased array radar, a new type of fleet air defense destroyer.
The launch of the Type 055 Guided-missile destroyer is of great significance to the current Chinese navy. It is the first naval ship of the Chinese navy that was in service on the platform and whose design concept has reached the Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation advanced or even local leading level.
On April 23, 2019, at the naval 70th anniversary parade held in Qingdao, the top destroyer of the fleet was the Type 055 destroyer - Nanchang, with hull number 101, marking its approach to service.
On January 12, 2020, the first Type 055 Guided-missile destroyer was commissioned in a military port in Qingdao. As of July 2022, the first batch of 8 Type 055 Guided-missile destroyer has been completed and put into service. The Type 055 destroyer has parameters of 183 meters in length, 22 meters in width, a draft of 8 meters, a standard displacement of 9000 tons, a fully loaded displacement of 12300 tons, a maximum speed of 32 knots, and a range of 7000 nautical miles.
In terms of military equipment, the equipment on the 055 model is currently the latest model. The bow cabin of the ship is equipped with a 130mm naval gun, which has a long range and can use multiple shells, providing precise strike capabilities. The cycle firing rate of the PJ-38 130mm naval gun equipped on board the 052D Type Drive Closed Silent Ship has reached 55 rounds/minute, with 35 rounds/minute for different types of ammunition, and the time for changing types of ammunition has been reduced to 4.6 seconds.
The 130mm naval gun on the 055 has a complete dual feed system compared to the PJ-38, and its performance such as firing rate will only be stronger. The ship is equipped with HHQ-10 short-range ship-to-air missiles and PJ-11 11 barrel 30mm naval gun anti-missile systems. The advanced 850mm concentric circular universal vertical launch system can launch HHQ-9B long-range ship-to-air missiles, YJ-18A ship-to-ship missiles, land-based attack cruise missiles, and new medium range ship-to-air missiles.
In the aircraft carrier battle group, the Type 055 destroyer undertakes formation air defense, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and land attack combat tasks. The operational system of the Type 055 destroyer is equipped with advanced electronic weapons and equipment. Based on the positioning of the operational mission of the Type 055 destroyer, top-level design and hierarchical decomposition are adopted to optimize the rationality and integration of the architecture, and integrate command and control.
