Patriots Jet Team jets used in Top Gun: Maverick

The Patriots Jet Team was formed in the early 21st century by Randy "Howler" Howell and is currently the only six-ship, civilian-owned jet demonstration team in the United States.

The Patriots #8 Cinejet was prinarily flown by Kevin “K2” Larossa II, while Scott “Intake” Kartvedt (#5) and Randy “Howler” Howell (#6) flew the reference aircraft. The creation of the Cinejet meant air to air videography could be shot at higher speeds and at higher load factors than other camera ships, which allowed for more dynamic and exciting shots during the film.

Intake and Randy first got involved with the film when the Patriots won the contract to train the actors to sustain ~7 g’s. The two Patriots were later asked to film the final dogfight scene between the F-14 and Su-57. The Patriots painted gray over two of their jets and added target points for the VFX team to overlay the F-14 and Su-57 models. The two “blue” pilots then went to SoCal, where they went on to shoot the final dogfight scene including the canyon run.

This livery pack includes the #8 Cinejet and the gray jets the production team used to overlay the F-14 and Su-57 models during the final dogfight scene.
