These words are written above the doorway leading into the Naval Air Combat Weapons School, colloquially known as Fighter Weapons School, by the students and cadre who attend. Students come to NAS Mesa Verde four times a year and spend eight weeks being taught by some of the best tactics instructors in the Emmerian Military. Pilots learn both in the classroom and in the cockpit how to counter the various threats that the Emmerian military may face in the near and far future, and will go back to their own squadrons as in house instructors to teach the skills they have honed.
While the VFC-10 Headhunters may look to be the most antiquated unit on the grounds of NAS Mesa Verde, make no mistake, they are also the most adept in air combat. Flying older model F-14 Tomcats, F-5 Tigers and A-4 Skyhawks, they are able to make up a vast majority of older, yet still equally deadly, fighters that the Emmerian Military may face in the coming future. Many students have been “Shot down” by underestimating the Instructors flying nearly 50 year old airframes. As the Headhunters current commanding officer loves to remind students. “It's not the plane, but the pilot.”
