Gerhard Stamp (3 June 1920 – 21 May 1998) was an aviator in the Luftwaffe during World War II, and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
The Yellow 17 was actually owned by III./JG11, but camouflaged for its night time duty when it was appropriated by JG300. The yellow band as well as the tigers head is from JG11.
Oblt Stamp was a successful Ju 88 bomber pilot who ''volunteered'' into JG300. As a sign of protest, he had the bomber pilot clasp painted on the nose of Yellow 17 along with his ship claims and Knight's Cross on the rudder.
Since night flying with single-engine aircraft required considerable skill, many JG300 pilots were former bomber pilots, and so was Stamp. Even before joining JG300, he was credited with sinking 35,000 gross register tons (GRT) of Allied merchant shipping as well as the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Defender on July 11, 1941 and various aircraft and vehicles on the ground while flying a Junkers Ju 88 in Lehrgeschwader 1 over the Mediterranean. Another 45,000 GRT of shipping was claimed as damaged.
As a fighter pilot he claimed five aerial victories, of which four are confirmed, three at night and one four-engine bomber during the day.
