This livery is modeled as a winter-to-spring operational scheme for 4. Staffel, JG 54, during their deployment on the Eastern Front. It uses a “lizard skin” style camo (i.e. mottled, brush-stroke, or scaled pattern) intended to break up the aircraft silhouette against snow, bare fields, treelines, and early spring terrain. JG 54 was nicknamed “Grünherz” (Green Heart) — many of their aircraft carried a green heart emblem
In the summer of 1942 (Operation Blau / Case Blue), Luftwaffe units were redistributed to support the drive into southern Russia.
While JG 52 and JG 3 were the main fighter groups operating over the Caucasus, III./JG 54 was temporarily detached from the Leningrad front and attached to JG 52.
Their operations were short-lived in the Caucasus region (late summer into autumn 1942) before they were recalled north in early 1943.
Known bases in kuban/Chechnya:
Maykop – captured oil field and airbase in the foothills; used as a forward base in summer 1942.
Anapa – on the Black Sea coast, a key hub for German fighter and bomber units covering operations over Novorossiysk and the Kuban bridgehead.
Krymskaya (Krymsk/Krymskaya airfield) – inland from Anapa, important staging airfield during the Kuban battles.
Novorossiysk (area strips) – contested area, some forward fields were briefly held and used.
Mozdok – further east, base for Luftwaffe support of the push into the Caucasus proper (toward Grozny and Ordzhonikidze).
Taman Peninsula fields – e.g. Slavyansk-na-Kubani and other temporary strips; vital for fighter operations during the retreat across the Kuban in early 1943.
