Year 1995 – The Middle East is a powder keg. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia lost control of its naval base in Tartus, Syria. Seeing a strategic opportunity, Turkey, with logistical support from NATO, launched a military operation, capturing the port of Tartus and establishing a beachhead for its forces inside Syria.
The Syrian government has tried to reclaim the city without success, but intelligence reports indicate that most Turkish supplies arrive by sea. A successful attack on the ships in Tartus will sever their supply chain and weaken their position, forcing them to withdraw.
Lacking the naval power to confront the Turkish fleet, High Command has ordered a MiG-21bis airstrike using anti-ship missiles to destroy Turkish vessels in the port.
