PB Alcatraz c. summer 2011 as it began receiving more Marines and thus more support. It was located on route 611 north of FOB Jackson. During this time period it was the northern most outpost in the Upper Sangin Valley before reaching FOB Zeebrugge in Kajaki.
PB Alcatraz circa mid 2011. This was a USMC patrol base first established by 2nd Reconnaissance BN and then 3rd Recon in April/May 2011. In September 2011 a company fr om 1/6 joined 3rd recon to take up battle space north and west of the base. This template represents the time frame wh ere 3rd recon and 1/6 began sharing the base. During this time, conditions would improve substantially. A team of sea bees would come in and establish a well, showers and laundry and combat engineers significantly improved the defensive posture.
