The BUG: 1. PL-8 missile will penetrate the mold
2. There is no cockpit (this will take a little longer)
3. Asymmetric landing gear animation, to be resolved in the next version!
The J-16 is a new fourth generation dual seat dual engine multi-purpose fighter developed by Shenyang Aircraft Company of China based on the J-11 fighter jet.
The aircraft's appearance is based on the Russian style Su-30MKK fighter bomber. The J-16 has the ability to attack air to ground and is equipped with Automatic Electronic Scanning Phased Array Radar (AESA), which can simultaneously identify and attack multiple targets. It has the ability to engage in long-range beyond the line of sight attacks and powerful ground to sea strikes. Compared with the Xi'an JH-7, the J-16 has a larger airframe, a maximum payload of 8 tons, and can launch Yingji 62 and Yingji 83 air to ship missiles. The aircraft is equipped with a Chinese made "Taihang" turbofan-10 engine, and its performance is equivalent to that of the US F-15E Fighter-bomber. The J-16 aircraft made its first flight in Shenyang on October 17, 2011. In early 2013, China officially unveiled the fighter jet.
Since the 1990s, the Chinese Air Force has begun to transform from a national air defense type to an attack and defense type, which requires new combat aircraft to have multi-purpose capabilities. Therefore, the Air Force has equipped domestically produced J-7A, but its disadvantage is poor self-defense ability in air combat, making it difficult to meet the requirements of multi-purpose operations required by the Air Force. In response to the problems with the J-7A, the Chinese Air Force has also introduced Su-30MKK fighter bombers from Russia. However, during its use, the Chinese Air Force also found that the Su-30MKK had many shortcomings that needed to be addressed, and thus the J-16 emerged in this demand.
The image of the J-16 fighter bomber appears, and the outside world has noticed that its body number is 1612. It can be speculated that it may be a mass production prototype, indicating that the J-16 is about to enter the mass production stage.
In May 2014, a new batch of J-16 fighter jets were delivered to the Chinese Air Force for use. The new J-16 will use some fifth generation aircraft technology.
There are two kinds of weapons of vital importance for J-16. One is the stealth standoff ammunition distribution system. With the radar of early warning aircraft and combat aircraft upgraded to active phased array, it may be difficult for Attack aircraft to attack the enemy's deep targets by means of low altitude penetration, so the stealth standoff ammunition distribution system is needed. This is the main reason why this weapon has become a hot spot in the development of air to ground weapons in the new century, At the 2012 Zhuhai Air Show, China once exhibited the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) stealth defense zone external ammunition distribution system, which can reach a strike distance of 120 kilometers under unpowered deployment conditions. If equipped with an engine, it can exceed 200 kilometers. Therefore, the J-16 can launch a stealth defense zone external ammunition distribution system outside the enemy's defense zone to strike its important targets.
Another is the ground penetrating bomb. At the 2012 Zhuhai Air Show, China exhibited a 1000 kilogram Tengo laser guided bomb. Its slender body clearly has considerations for improving its ground penetrating ability. In fact, its introduction also includes penetration and deep penetration. With the development of modern technology, the number of underground works and targets with strong protective capabilities in various countries has increased, Therefore, ground penetrating bombs with high penetration capability are required for combat aircraft to deal with these targets. Due to the large volume and bombs of these bombs, it is difficult for general fighters to mount them, and even the Fifth-generation fighter is difficult to mount them due to the limitations of the bomb compartment, so it needs the fourth generation heavy fighter bomber to use. For example, the GBU-28 laser guided ground penetrating bombs with a weight of up to 2.3 tons can only be attached to the F-15E in the US Air Force. For China, there is still a lack of stealth Strategic bomber such as B-2, and the penetration capability of H-6K is weak. Therefore, the laser guided earth penetrating projectile may be delivered to J-16 for execution in the future.

The biggest feature of the J-16's appearance is that it is equipped with a light colored airborne radome, instead of the black radome of the J-11 series. It may be equipped with a new generation of airborne radar, especially if it is not equipped with a traditional nose airspeed tube. In the early prototype of the J-16, the nose airspeed tube can also be clearly seen. Therefore, the new generation of airborne radar may be the airborne active phased array radar - AESA. Based on foreign experience, The nose airspeed tube may have a certain impact on the performance of AESA, such as multi beam forming and other functions. Therefore, fighter jets equipped with AESA generally do not use nose airspeed tubes. The most obvious examples are the F-16I and F-16E, which are equipped with AN/APG-68V-9 mechanical scanning radar, so the nose airspeed tube is retained, while the F-16E is equipped with AN/APG-80 airborne active phased array radar, so the nose airspeed tube is cancelled.
