Established in the 1950s as an F4U Corsair Squadron, The Griffons would go on to have a long and illustrious naval aviation career. Flying in various armed conflicts in the convening decades, the Griffons would not rise to prominence until 1975, while aboard the OFS Kingfisher. As one of the Air Wings F-14 Squadrons, They along with VF-12 'Knights' would participate in tense overflights of Yuktobanias outlying islands. During these sorties, they would come face to face with the very MiGs that would become their open enemy in a few short years.
During the Belkan War, the Griffons were deployed on escort duty, monitoring Yuktobanian troop ships approaching the Osean continent. At the turn of the century came another aircraft change for the Griffons, this time in the shape of the new F/A-18E Super Hornet.
The Griffons deployed against Yuktobania in 2010 aboard the OFS Hubert, earning a dozen victories and returning from their deployment in mid 2011. In 2016 the squadron was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 23 aboard the OFS Barbet and participate in the cruise's that followed, including a chopped deployment to CVW 7 in late 2020 aboard the OFS Vulture.
Today the Griffons serve as the ground attack backbone of CVW-23.
