Night Carrier recovery and tanking qualification. Take off from the carrier and follow the pattern back for a CASE III recovery. Then launch again and fly to a tanker before conducting another CASE III landing.
You will start cold and dark on the deck of the Supercarrier. While you start up, enjoy the light show from the ship’s company exercising the carrier’s awesome defensive weapons on some drones.
Be sure to read the Supercarrier manual from digitalcombatsimulator.com, particularly the CASE III procedures. You should also have some idea of how to fly a TACAN radial.
Have a notepad handy to record the details of the marshal, as ATC talks pretty fast! When you call inbound you’ll be told: Final heading, Marshal radial/distance, height, expected approach time and altimeter. It helps to pause the sim as this appears on the screen for only a short time. After a few times you get very good at this.
There are two sets of waypoints in your jet. 1-4 are for the CASE III pattern and 6-9 are to go to the tanker. As above, have your aircraft set to navigate via TACAN, but sel ect the SEQ1 OSB on the HSI to show the shape of the patterns.
Takeoff fr om the carrier and follow the shape of WPTs 1-4 for a CASE III landing.
Then change your TACAN to a tanker. 1X is the KC135 MPRS and 3X is the S3 Viking (don’t forget to select A-A TACAN mode) and taxi to the CAT and takeoff again. You may have to use the ground crew > request launch command to get the launch crew back in place. Launch again and follow WPT 6-9 to the tanker and then back to the ship (change the TACAN channel again) for another CASE III landing. Well done!
