BACKGROUND
While US forces in the Persian Gulf are committed to Operation Southern Watch (OSW) over southern Iraq, Iran has begun attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz using its Silkworm missiles. The USA has decided to retaliate. Carrier Strike Group Eight, led by CVN-73 USS George Washington is currently on station in the Northern Arabian Gulf (NAG), in support of the OSW. CVW-17 (Carrier Air Wing 17) onboard the USS George Washington is tasked with retaliatory strikes targeting Silkworm anti-ship missile sites along the Iranian coast near the Strait of Hormuz.

MISSION: ESCORT SILKWORM MISSILE SITE STRIKE PACKAGE
Four F/A-18C Hornets from the VFA-83 will strike a Silkworm site 30 NM west of Bandar-e-Jask. Strikers are loaded with GBU-38 JDAMs. Flight of two F-14B's from the VF-103 provide DCA (defensive counter air) support for the strike package.
