----------

VF‐124 Gunfighters was a fleet replacement squadron (FRS or RAG) for the United States Navy. Originally
established on August 16, 1948 as VF‐53 it was re‐designated VF‐124 on April 11, 1958. In 1961, the squadron
relocated to NAS Miramar, California, which would become the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s Master Jet Base for fighter
aircraft. The squadron was dis‐established on September 30, 1994 and its F‐14 fleet replacement duties were
consolidated with its U.S. Atlantic Fleet counterpart, VF‐101 Grim Reapers, at NAS Oceana, Virginia.

In 1972, VF‐124 became the Pacific Fleet training squadron for the new F‐14A Tomcat. VF‐124 continued in this
capacity, training F‐14A and F‐14D air and ground personnel until dis‐establishment in 1994. (Wikipedia)
