Looking Glass is loosely based on a Canadian made for TV movie that came out in 1984, called “Countdown to Looking Glass”. It tells a story of a world banking crisis that leads to turmoil in Southwest Asia and eventually a showdown between the United States and the Soviet Union.
You will be flying off the George Washington in the new F/A 18 Hornet. There are 11 missions in the campaign. They range from carrier work ups (traps), CAP, air to ground, anti-ship, recon, and escort missions. Super Carrier and Persian Gulf map required.
**This has recently been updated 07/01/2022 fixed mission 2 issue with not getting "Mission Accomplished". Let me know if this is not corrected or other issues.
I may in the near future revamp whole campaign. I have learned a few new tricks in the ME that may help the campaign flow better.
The campaign and its missions are not very difficult. Some flights can be long. There will be a blend of cold starts and hot starts from the ramp.
There are limited and I stress limited voice overs (human and computerized). This is my first attempt at campaign builder and using basic recording software. So, bear with me!! Some of the text in the “situation” part of the briefing at beginning of the mission are taken directly from the movie. I have added and changed a few things just to give more variety of missions. I cannot guarantee that all vehicles, aircraft, ships are period correct.
Some missions if you fly them twice, will possibly have different challenges, and outcomes, including the final mission (Mission #11).
Make sure that you read all the remark’s “task” in the briefing. It will tell you exactly what you need to do to complete that mission. Most of the missions you will need to follow the flight path up to a certain point (for triggers).
This was created under open beta over the past several months so there have been a few updates since I started building the campaign. It was created with the new clouds.
AI wingman and others are not that reliable as usual. I have tried to design the missions, so they can be completed without depending on AI. Like I said the missions are not that difficult, I wanted any level of player to be able to enjoy the campaign. Simple basic knowledge of aircraft systems is necessary. So, I hope you do enjoy. Also, I encourage you to watch the movie “Countdown to Looking Glass” it is available for free on YouTube. It will give you more of an in-depth feel and background to the crisis that leads to the showdown between the United States and Russia.).
