Su-25A Frogfoot Dev Report

On February 22nd, 1975, the Su-25 made its maiden flight. Undoubtedly one of the most combat-proven aircraft since World War II, the Frogfoot celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and remains in active service today. To honour this legend, Eagle Dynamics is building a completely new 3D model and cockpit from the ground up, and the results speak for themselves.

Drawing on years of research, museum reference material, and 3D scanning of airframe components, our artists have produced what we believe is the most detailed aircraft model ever created for a flight simulator. Every rivet, panel joint, and wear mark has been rendered with photorealistic accuracy. The wing mechanization—flaps, slats, ailerons, and airbrake flaps—is fully detailed without simplification, exactly as found on the real aircraft. Pylons, adapters, fuel tanks, and external weapons are now produced as a single, integrated project by a single artist, ensuring a perfect fit across all elements.

The cockpit sets a new standard for DCS. Dynamic ambient occlusion adjusts cockpit lighting as the canopy opens and closes, animated shadows fall beneath every switch and dial, and new lighting technology simulates full ray tracing. For the first time, the Su-25 cockpit will also be available in an English-language version, following the approach established with the MiG-29. These screenshots are not renders; they are taken directly from the viewer.
