Officially established in 1972 with the adoption of the F-14A in Maritime Defense Force service, Fighter Squadron 616 "Gargoyle" would reach total operational capabilities in 1974, serving aboard the OFS Heron with Carrier Air Wing 14, deploying the first time to WESTPAC 1976 Along with their sister squadron VF-14 "Snakes".
In 1987, both VF-14 and the Gargoyles would be upgraded to the F-14B, and transferred from the Heron to the OFS Crane. During the Belkan War, the Gargoyles would deploy to Ustio, supporting allied forces in the region with ground-striked provided by the F-14Bs upgraded LANTRIN abilities, Proving vital during operations in the mountainous regions of southern Belka.
Gargoyle would go on to fly the F-14D Super Tomcats within the IUN-Peace Keeping Forces, Notably being one of the few Osean squadrons notably not recalled for service in 2010 during the Circum-Pacific war, and would go on to serve until the end of the Second Continental War in 2019.
