In preparation for D-Day, trains and rail yards and rail bridges throughout France were attacked during "Operation Chattanooga" from 20 to 28 May 1944 to block reinforcements and supplies for German troops along the invasion beaches.
The raid on Creil railroad marshaling yard north of Paris was conducted by the 513th Fighter Squadron, 406th Fighter Group flying P-47s from England.
