Abkhazian Antics 1 – Exercise on the Common

Situation:
Your flight – whether British Army Gazelle or RAF Harrier (or even Georgian Su25T) – is on a training visit to the Balkans.

Today’s op starts with a short flight to observe an exercise taking place on the other side of the border with Abkhazia.  We think they’ll show off some of their latest acquisitions from Russian arms manufacturers, and the Georgians are keen to see what they field.

Co-ordinating the mission is Womble Command, a British field HQ section based at Senaki, but most of your contact on the ground will be with Orinoco – a British scout section in place and observing from a watch tower on the banks of the river that forms the border with Abkhazia.
They'll be looking out for your approach as you get close to WP1.

The Su25T option was added for anyone who doesn't want to spend cash on a more complicated plane, or any cash at all - come to that.

This mission is a bit of an epic - allow about 2hrs to complete it.  As you might expect, there's a bit of a twist..

Installation:
Download the zip file, use 7zip or similar to unpack it
The briefing PDF & map should be in there too.

Copy the .miz file to your DCS Missions folder:
C:\Users\User’s name\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta (if you’re using the DCS OpenBeta)\Missions
If you’ve got loads of missions, you might want to save it to a sub folder marked ‘Harrier’ or similar so you can find it more easily.

Bullseye:
Senaki Airbase

Weather:
Overcast, little wind

Friendly Forces:
Air assets:
Springfield: 1x Gazelle M
Base: Field outside Zugdidi
Load: Targeting pod
Your flight is visiting a Georgian Air Force UH-1 squadron to get experience of flying in the Balkans.
Overnight, your hosts put on a major shindig at a local TV station in the town of Zugdidi, and your Gazelle is waiting in a field being used as a FARP, ahead of this morning’s exercise over the border.
Your task is to observe the exercise, practice acquiring targets, getting an idea of the equipment they have available and tactics being used.
WP1 – South end of exercise area
WP2 – North end of exercise area
WP3 – Last night’s overnight pitch in NE Zugdidi
WP4 - Home base – Senaki airfield

Dodge: 1x Harrier (or Georgian Su25T)
Base: Kobuleti
Load: TPOD
Your flight is on deployment to Georgia for training with your hosts - The 2nd Attack squadron of the Georgian Air Force - based at Kobuleti.
Today's sortie is to accompany 2 of their L-39s observing an exercise conducted by Abkhazian forces just over the border.
Your task is to observe their forces, tactics, and practice acquiring targets and simulating attack runs, but be careful not to cross the river into Abkhazian territory!
Take off and join up with the L-39s, callsign Colt, fly up to WP1, break off and fly solo until bingo fuel, then return to Kobuleti for a hog roast!
WP1 – South end of exercise area
WP2 – North end of exercise area
WP3 – Home base – Kobuleti
WP4 – Alternate field - Senaki

Colt: 2x L-39 from the 2nd Attack Squadron, Georgian Air Force
Freq: 305MHz
Route: Fly at approx. 5000ft, 320kts to WP1, then orbit to observe the exercise and practice target acquisition.

Ground assets:
Orinoco: UK army scout unit
Based by the river at the border with Abkhazia, also observing the exercise.

Opposition forces:
None – although don’t stray over the river – with so much belligerent heavy metal out there today, we don’t want to wind the Abkhazians up - even if they’ve only got training rounds!

Note:
Whether you choose to fly the Harrier (or Su25) or the Gazelle, an AI pilot will take over the other aircraft.
Originally the mission was designed for either Harrier or Gazelle.  If you fly the Gazelle, the Georgians may well launch a few extra aircraft later on....

The Su25 option was added a couple of days ago – partly as an afterthought, but also for anyone who wants to fly DCS without paying any money whatsoever ????
