After emerging from a sudden and intense electrical storm, the fleet checks in with Mother.
“Report!” the captain barked.
“All fleet vessels respond: no damage but GPS systems are down, including ours. Otherwise, no damage is registered from the storm.”
“What do you mean, down?”
“I don’t know how to explain it, Captain. It’s as if the GPS satellite network is no longer there. It’s just GONE.”
While the captain attempted to process the emerging situation, the Comms officer bounded from his chair. “Captain! Captain! You’ve got to hear this.”
“On speaker,” the captain ordered.
“Well now, Germans are dive-bombing a convoy out into sea...there are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven German dive-bombers - Junkers 87s - there's one going down on its target now...
...there are one, two, three, four, five, six....there are about 10 German machines dive-bombing the British convoy...which is just out to sea...”
“What the hell are we listening to?” the captain inquired.
“It’s the radio, sir. Low band AM. And sir, it’s a live broadcast.”
“Captain! Report from Overlord. She is still with us and is tracking at least 2 dozen aircraft moving very slowly, heading Northeast.
The Captain snaps into action. “Get two of ours up there to identify those planes, immediately!”
Start up, launch and fly to Waypoint 1. Overlord will keep you informed of the bogeys’ location.
To make a successful identification, you must fly within 5 nm of your targets. Once identified, await further instructions from Mother.
If signs of aggression are detected, you’re free to engage.
