MiG-21bis, VVS, 115th GvIAP - Afghanistan, 1979-1981

MiG-21bis belonging to the 115th 'Orsha' Order of Kutuzov and Aleksandr Nevskiy Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, originally based in Kolkaty, Turkestan Military District. This skin is based on aircraft deployed to Afghanistan, as part of the 40th Army, and uses dynamic numbering.

115th GvIAP was the only frontline aviation regiment in the TurkVO, and was the first tactical fixed-wing aviation unit to land in Afghanistan, arriving to Bagram on the 27th December immediately after the airbase's capture. Despite returning to the Soviet Union on July 1981, the regiment continued to fly the MiG-21bis from Kolkaty in support of Soviet troops in northern Afghanistan until the very end of the war. 115th GvIAP was the only fighter regiment decorated in the Soviet-Afghan war, receiving the Order of the Red Banner on March 1981. The MiG-21bis was replaced by the MiG-29A during the winter of 1989.
