Cpt. Mike McDillon
Formerly serving with North Point's Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, McDillon attitude towards what he saw as incompetent superiors would earn him several enemies in the general staff. Eventually this would catch up with him resulting in him being taken off flight duty and assigned a desk job. Instead of accepting his fate he chose to resign and put his skills out on the open market as a mercenary, soon afterwards he would hire on with the Ustio Air Force. Assigned to lead Lamia team, McDillon and his squadron would take part in multiple operations all the way up to the liberation of Directus. On May 17, 1995 Lamia Squadron was supporting an Allied attack from Ustio's border in conjunction with Operation Hell Bound when they were all wiped out by a mysterious attack and what few pilots survived would report a bright flash of light, it would later be determined to be the work of Belka's Excalibur long range laser defense system. No remains were ever recovered most likely being vaporized along with most of his aircraft.
Lt. Carlos Antunes
Serving with the Brasalium Air Force for most of his 20s he would leave to find better pay as a mercenary after political changes in the government caused wage cuts across the board for the military. In 1995 he was hired on by the Ustian Government to help bolster their Force and was assigned to the 43rd AFU under the command of Cpt. McDillon. Antunes's calm but aggressive flying style would earn him much respect from some pilots throughout the early months of the war, although his gambling habits would often land him in trouble with others. During an operation on the 17th of May Antunes's plane was shot down by unknown means. Based on testimonies of those who survived the operation Allied intelligence suspected some sort of laser type weapon was to blame, suspicions that were confirmed two days later during operation Dynamo. Eventually his wreck was located and what few remains we left were recovered and returned to his home country.
Lt. Martin Soble
After completing flight training, Soble was looking forward to an exciting career with the Federation of Central Usea's Air Force. However shortly before his assignment to
a squadron a medical exam discovered early signs of scoliosis (a sideways curve of the spine), putting an end to his hopes of being a fighter pilot. Before his medical discharge was finalized a sympathetic officer showed him an old news article about mercenary pilots in the Romney Civil War. The officer explained that mercenaries weren't held to the same medical standards as normal military, aswell as with Soble being fully trained by that point this would be his best opportunity. By Nov of 1994 he officially signed up with the Foreign Mercenary Forces, and several months later he found himself fighting under Ustio's banner. Assigned to the 43rd AFU under Cpt. McDillon he would slowly start to learn the art of air combat, managing the score several kills by the time Directus was liberated. On 05-17-1995 Soble and his team were supporting attack on the Hydrian Line from Ustio's border when they were all wiped out by a Belkan laser defense system. His body was later recovered and returned to his family in the FCU.
