Fly random combat sorties or in a flight training mode for all your aircraft types on the Persian Gulf map. Great for learning new aircraft and quick starting random fights. This mission allows you to select any aircraft you own in the game via the F10 radio menu and fly either random air to ground or air to air missions. The enemy spawns are always in random locations and are historically accurate targets based on the players current aircraft service life.
This is a quick change mission which allows you to choose any aircraft (if you own it) in the game via the F10 radio menu and fly either random air to ground or air to air missions. The enemy spawns are always in random locations and are historically accurate targets based on the players current aircraft service life. Since DCS is short on targets for certain decades, you can extend the service life of your aircraft via the preferences menu. For aircraft of WWII era you are required to have the WWII asset pack for any enemy spawns to work correctly. If you don't have the asset pack, you can extend the service life of your aircraft via the preferences menu for 1950's era targets.
All aircraft and scenario changes can be made without restarting or editing the mission. Just pick a new aircraft and spawn type using the F10 radio menu. Then use F10 menu again for a new mission as solo or with a AI wingman. The wingman can be selected to either lead you to the target or follow you in formation as you find the target. A wingman is helpful if you decide to turn up the difficulty or spawn bombers with escorts. If the wingman leads you to the target, you need to get in formation before he will depart the holding pattern.
There is also a flight school section that allows you to practice your basic airmanship. In flight training you can spawn on final approach, fly the pattern, follow a formation, saddle up to a tanker, attempt a carrier landing, spawn a propeller aircraft on a carrier, navigate cross country using NDB's that spawn a path. You can even test your airmanship and pass a check ride exam. In the check ride you demonstrate you can recover fr om a stall within limits, take off and land within the specified distance, etc in any aircraft type.
The mission starts in a TF-51D but feel free to change this in the mission editor to whatever starting type aircraft you wish. You can also move the starting aircraft to any airfield on the map in the mission editor. You can change the wind direction and work on cross wind landings. The choice is up to you with the FBO mission.
Use the preferences menu to change if hard points for new spawns are air to ground or air to air. This setting can also be changed in the mission editor to always start air to ground for instance. You can use the preferences menu to change if helicopters spawn fr om a carrier, an assault ship, or cruiser. You can reduce the number of aircraft choices in the menus to only those you own by editing the trigger "owned aircraft" in the mission editor. Just remove those fr om the "Do Script" command you don't own and they won't appear in the menus. Any of the preferences can be edited in the mission editor. So when you start the mission it is always configured how you like it.
Please Note: If you have the DCS NS-430 GPS module you will need to disable it. Otherwise this mission will crash.
Feedback is always encouraged. Stay safe!
Updates for version 1.07
Added a New Mission type of Squadron Lead which spawns a squad of five AI aircraft of player type and follows player to target
Squadron Lead mission will spawn enemy targets in multiples of four for each setting of difficulty preference
Flight distances to target can be selected via preferences as short medium or long flights
When multiple enemy aircraft spawn they will now fly in a formation depending on aircraft type or rotary wings.
Airfields without appropriate sized parking spaces no longer spawn large landing or departing traffic aircraft and crash mission.
Added civilian light aircraft traffic for random landing and departing traffic on smaller airfields.
Tail numbers of aircraft are unique when wingman or squadron spawn for most aircraft types.
When player is flying in the lead of wingman mission or in a squad mission and lands, following aircraft will also land
Fixed mission so when all airborne targets are destroyed player will now get a vector back to airbase.
When multiple enemy targets are spawned near the water some units no longer spawn in the water.
Enemy Liveries are now correct and no longer use DCS default liveries
Player now told altitude of airborne targets based on player aircraft altimeter unit of measurement ( feet or meters )
Normandy Map now spawns enemies on red side not neutral side
Added I-16 to aircraft you can take a checkride in
Added Fw 190 D-9 to aircraft you can take a checkride in
MiG-19P to aircraft you can take a checkride in
MiG-21bis to aircraft you can take a checkride in
