A brief high precision low level bombing of submarine pens at Cherbourg just before D-Day.
Before starting read mission situation statement and study the reconn. photo. You commence at 1000' about 4 n.m. North of target on assigned Hdg. You will fly over a breakwater at the mouth of the harbour, and directly to target. Because the pens are heavily armoured, you must bomb through the front door. Your 2 bombs should be released at 100' A.S.L .at a speed of 240 m.p.h. They are fuse - delayed for 3 and 4 seconds. DO NOT ARM THEM as the fuse delay is flag triggered. If you were to arm them, they would explode on impact and bring you down.
There are some 88mm AA in on the breakwater, so it is not an easy mission and may take some practice. TIP: Try flying your final run in with gun camera view as this gives clearer vision and a good readout of speed and altitude at bottom of screen. After a few runs you will be able to lob a bomb through the open doors of the pens. Good luck.
