Black Sea - February, 2008
After a long and bloody conflict...peace might finally be at hand.
The Russo-Georgian War was a war between Georgia, Russia and the Russian-backed self-proclaimed republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The war took place in August 2008 following a period of worsening relations between Russia and Georgia, both formerly constituent republics of the Soviet Union. The fighting took place in the strategically important Transcaucasia region. It was regarded as the first European war of the 21st century.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he had ordered the cessation of the "peace enforcement" operation in Georgia. "The operation has achieved its goal, security for peacekeepers and civilians has been restored. The aggressor was punished, suffering huge losses." Later that day he met French President Nicolas Sarkozy (the President-in-Office of the European Union) and approved a six-point plan
Since this agreement things have strayed off course---with both sides accusing the other of violating the agreement. And after some hesitation and diplomatice wrangling the U.S has been brought into the frey. One of our key ambassadors has been making progress with the Georgian sepertists and insists that after a face to face with the Georgian President and the Russian delgation that peace can again be restored.
The Swiss have agreed to humbly act as a mediator to the talks---the plan is in place---the ambassador is en route---you're job is to keep everyone safe.
"Good afternoon, Captain. Quite a mission for us today---the Ambassador is entering our AO shortly---you will interdict them and take over escort duty.
From there you can escort the flight to Novorossiysk---a motorcade will take them to the Swiss airliner. As well as escort duty---we are attempting to foster good relations with our Russian hosts---Today you will LAND and REFUEL/REARM on the carrier---You're wingman will take extra fuel and stay on patrol while you complete that task...how exiting!--- you will then escort the Diplomats to the meeting site at Sochi-Adler.
Further instructions will be issued as the day unfolds...hope you got some rest last night---We are heading right into the Bears den today. Stay frosty!
