The year ~ 1977
Watergate never happened, Nixon is in his second term...and the Viet Nam war rages on.
You are Lt. Joey "MadDog" Francis -- a young, fresh out of flight school Naval Aviator. Ready to make a name for yourself in the deadliest war in the world.
"Welcome to 'Nam, Nugget! This damn war has been going on for over 10 years---but its day one for you. I bet your looking forward to getting to your carrier group---but we are a bit "short staffed" today so your superiors have assigned you to us for the morning...lucky you.
The VC have been infiltrating into our AO far too regularly over the last month---its time to push them the hell back to where they came from!
Your going to do some ground pounding this morning to help get yourself acclimated to your new home---should be easy picking for a hot shot Naval pilot like you...lets get rolling!"
You will be flying to waypoint 1 and assisting in some CAS. There are US ground units in the area and they are pinned down---you need to help take out the enemy.
A pair of Marine jump jets will do the heavy lifting and hit the tanks---your priority are the softer targets. Rumor has it that you spent some quality time in the AV-8 simulator as well...
A flight of Huey gunships is heading into the area---work together with them to eliminate the ground forces---then orders will come to head to your carrier group---things are getting really dicey in the North today---looks like it will be a long day for you too!
MODS for this are:
Starway -- Green Thunder
F-4 Phantom & AV-8 (Flyable MODS)
I know a lot of us are looking forward to the F-18/Tomcat---well, I simply couldn't wait any longer! lol. Make sure you take some time to practice landing the F-4 on the carrier---it is MUCH harder than slamming that Su-33 down all over the deck. More missions in the pipeline---the Green Thunder mod is AMAZING!!!
To make the '77 missions "feel" right you need to think of North as South on the map and changed a morning mission time to evening to keep the sun on the correct side of the planet---it gives you the sensation of flying up the coast of Viet Nam. Enjoy!
