Yugoslavia received ex-RAF Sabres during the late 1950s via the Mutual Defense Aid Program. These Sabres were Canadair-built Mk.4 aircraft which were upgraded with the 6-3 wing and given the US designation F-86E(M), 'M' for Modified.
At the end of 1989, 19 Mig 21s and 23s of Saddam Hussein's Iraqi air force were sent to Yugoslavia for repairs. Due to the sanctions on Iraq, and the war in Croatia in 1991, the planes could not be returned and were painted in Yugoslav colors.
