Khasab - an Omani Military base on a peninsular overlooking the busy and highly important Strait of Hormuz.
Normally only helicopters would be permanently located at Khasab - mainly used to ferry equipment and personnel to manned sites on islands and in the mountains.
However, in times of potential conflict, squadrons of fighter aircraft would be deployed there.
Operation Bolthole is practiced and exercised regularly in case of runway maintenance or possible airfield attack.
All airworthy aircraft are deployed to a remote site to operate from there. All necessary assets need to be transported by road or air to the Bolthole site.
You are a Huey pilot. It's quite a nice posting, enjoyable flying both offshore and in the mountains which is always challenging for helicopters. The scenery is stunning.
This mission will require the use of radio based navigation equipment - but do not worry - your co-pilot is very experienced and will be there to offer assistance.
